The annual inflation rate in Mauritius quickened for the third month to 4.2% in May 2025, a new high since March 2024. Upward pressure stemmed primarily from prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (9% vs 7.6% in April); restaurants & hotels (8.3% vs 8%); education (6.4%, the same as in April); health (5.8%, the same as in April); and furnishings & household equipment (5.3% vs 6.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up by 0.1% in May, after a 0.3% increase in the prior month.
