Chile’s unemployment rate rose to 8.8% in the February–April 2025 period, up 0.3 pp from a year earlier and above market expectations of 8.6%. The increase was driven by a 0.6% rise in the labor force, outpacing the 0.2% growth in employment. Job gains were led by food services (8.8%), finance (10.1%), and education (4.3%), while the inactive population grew 1.5%. Employment fell in the public sector (-5.1%) and commerce (-1.3%). Among men, the jobless rate rose 0.4 pp to 8.2%, with no employment growth but a 5.1% increase in the number of unemployed. For women, the unemployment rate rose to 9.7% (+0.2 pp), as labor force growth (0.8%) outpaced employment gains (0.5%).
