In France, industrial production measures the output of businesses integrated in industrial sector of the economy. Manufacturing is the most important sector and accounts for 86 percent of total production. The biggest segments within Manufacturing are: Food products and beverages (13 percent of total production); machinery and equipment goods (13 percent), of which computer, electronic and optical products (5 percent); basic metals and fabricated metal products (12 percent); other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (12 percent); transport equipment (10 percent); rubber and plastics products, and other non-metallic mineral products (8 percent); and chemicals and chemical products (6 percent). Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning account for 11 percent of total output, Water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation account for 1 percent and Mining and quarrying account also for 1 percent.

Industrial production in France rose 0.8% month-on-month in September 2025, rebounding from an upwardly revised 0.9% decline in August and exceeding market expectations of a 0.1% gain. Manufacturing output recovered 0.9% after a 1% drop in the previous month, driven mainly by rebounds in the manufacture of transport equipment (5.5% vs -4.3% in August), electrical, electronic, and computer equipment (1.2% vs -0.4%), food processing industries (0.4% vs -0.4%), and coking and refining (1.2% vs -2.6%). Moreover, production stalled in the mining, energy, and water industries, following a 0.5% fall in August. In contrast, construction output fell 1.3% in September, reversing a 1.2% increase in the prior month, as activity tumbled in both building construction (-5.2% vs 3.9%) and specialized construction work (-1% vs 1.4%). Over the July-September period, industrial activity rose 1.4% compared with the previous three months, while year-on-year industrial output grew 1.1%.
