On the expenditure side, household consumption is the main component of GDP and accounts for 63 percent of its total use, followed by gross fixed capital formation (22 percent) and government expenditure (14 percent). Latest Updates
Romania's GDP expanded by 0.3% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, slightly above the preliminary estimate of 0.2%, but sharply slowing from 1.5% in the previous three-month period, according to second estimates. This marked the slowest growth since the first quarter of 2024, largely due to a decline in government spending (-2.9%). Meanwhile, gross fixed capital formation surged by 18.9%, and household consumption also increased slightly by 0.3%. Net external demand weighed on growth, as imports grew 3.8%, outpacing the 3.4% gain in exports. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy stagnated in Q1, following 0.5% growth in the previous quarter.
