On the expenditure side, household consumption is the main component of GDP and accounts for 63 percent of its total use, followed by gross fixed capital formation (22 percent) and government expenditure (14 percent). Exports of goods and services account for 41 percent of GDP and imports account for 41 percent.

The gross domestic product of Romania expanded by 0.3% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, matching the second estimate and the previous three-month period. The economic growth was mainly driven by expansion recorded in household consumptions (0.6%). On the other hand, government spending (0.2%) and gross fixed capital formation declined (-0.1%). Net external demand also contributed negatively to the GDP, as imports (2.5%) rose more than exports (1.8%). On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the country’s economy grew by 1.2% in Q2,  marking the strongest expansion since Q4 2022, after a downwardly revised flat reading in the preceding period.
