Slovakia’s annual inflation rate edged up to 4.4% in July 2025 from 4.3% in the previous month, coming in slightly above market expectations of 4.2%. The upturn was driven by higher prices in food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.4% vs 4.2% in June), alcoholic beverages, and tobacco (6.7% vs 5.3%), clothing and footwear (3.6% vs 3.5%), housing and utilities (2.7% vs 2.6%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (3.2% vs 3.0%), and miscellaneous goods and services (6.3% vs 6.2%). Meanwhile, costs moderated for health (1.9% vs 2.4%), transportation (1.5% vs 2.6%), communication (4.3% vs 6.1%), and recreation and culture (4.8% vs 4.9%). Prices remained unchanged for education (10.0%) and restaurants and hotels (9.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose slightly by 0.3% in July from 0.2% in the preceding period.
