Zcash (ZEC) could extend its ongoing recovery toward $600 before undergoing a sharp bearish reversal that sends its price below $300.
Let’s examine how.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 5, ZEC was trading near $516, up almost 2% over the previous three-day session.
The cryptocurrency has been consolidating within what appears to be a bear flag after suffering a sharp rejection at the $650 level.
The initial sell-off produced a large red volume candle, indicating aggressive distribution. Since then, ZEC has recovered inside the bear flag channel, but trading volumes have gradually declined.
That combination typically suggests the rebound is corrective rather than the beginning of a sustainable bullish trend.
Zcash could nevertheless continue climbing toward the flag’s upper trendline near $580–$600. The resistance area also sits close to the levels that rejected the price during its previous recovery attempts.
A pullback from $600 would increase the likelihood of ZEC falling toward the flag’s lower boundary, currently near $450–$470.
The bearish setup would confirm after a decisive breakdown below this support range. Traders calculate a bear flag target by subtracting the height of the preceding sell-off from the breakdown point.
For Zcash, the measured downside objective sits near $295, close to its 200-period exponential moving average (200-period EMA, blue) around $280. That would represent an approximately 50% decline from the potential $600 peak.
Zcash’s bear flag could gain credibility if the broader macro environment turns increasingly hostile toward risk assets.
The first major threat is a more hawkish Federal Reserve. Sticky inflation or renewed rate-hike expectations could tighten financial conditions, lift bond yields and reduce demand for speculative cryptocurrencies such as ZEC.
A fresh oil-price shock may strengthen that pressure. Renewed US–Iran tensions or disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz could push crude prices higher, revive inflation concerns and make it harder for the Fed to ease policy.
Meanwhile, additional tightening from the Bank of Japan could trigger an unwinding of “yen carry trades.” Such deleveraging may force investors to reduce exposure across global risk markets, including cryptocurrencies like Zcash.
