Brazil’s retail sales fell 0.3% month-on-month in September 2025, after a downwardly revised 0.1% gain in August and missing expectations of a 0.3% rise. Six of eight retail categories posted declines, led by books, newspapers, and stationery (-1.6%), textiles and footwear (-1.2%), fuels and lubricants (-0.9%), IT and communication equipment (-0.9%), furniture and appliances (-0.5%), and supermarkets, food, and beverages (-0.2%). Sales rose for personal and household goods (0.5%) and pharmaceutical and perfumery items (1.3%). In the extended retail sector, which includes vehicles, auto parts, and construction materials, sales grew 0.2% month-on-month. Year-on-year, retail trade increased 0.8%.
