Brazil’s retail sales rose 0.2% in August 2025 from July, breaking a four-month streak of declines, in line with market expectations. Five of the eight retail categories posted gains, led by office, IT, and communication equipment (+4.9%), textiles, clothing, and footwear (+1.0%), and pharmaceuticals, medical, and personal care (+0.7%). Furniture and household appliances (+0.4%) and supermarkets, food, beverages, and tobacco (+0.4%) also advanced. Declines were seen in books, newspapers, and stationery (-2.1%), fuels and lubricants (-0.6%), and other personal and household items (-0.5%). In the broader retail segment—which includes vehicles, motorcycles, auto parts, construction materials, and wholesale food and beverages—sales climbed 0.9% on the month. Year-on-year, retail sales rose 0.4%, the fifth consecutive annual increase.
