In Brazil, the unemployment rate measures the number of people actively looking for a job as a percentage of the labour force.

Latest Updates

Brazil’s unemployment rate averaged 7.9% in the three months leading to March of 2024, rising from 7.4% in the previous moving quarter, but below market expectations of 8.1%. The figures still point to a tight labor market compared to levels since the 2015 crisis, but underscored the trend of softening since the fourth quarter of 2023. The unemployed population rose by 542,000 to 8,600,000, while net employment fell by 782,000 to 100,200,000. In the meantime, average wages grew by nearly R$50 per month to R$3,123.
