Food prices in Singapore rose by 2.8% year-on-year in April 2024, easing from a 3.0% increase in the previous month and marking the softest pace since February 2022. Within food, excluding food servicing services, cost eased for bread & cereals (3.5% vs 3.8%), meat (0.1% vs 1.2%), milk, cheese & eggs (2.0% vs 2.5%), non-alcoholic beverages (2.7% vs 4.1%), and other food (5.1% vs 6.6%). In addition, prices continued to decline for fish & seafood (-5.6% vs -5.6%) and fruits (-0.7% vs -0.5%). By contrast, prices rose faster for oils & fats (4.4% vs 3.5%) and sugar, preserves & confectionery (1.5% vs 0.5%), amid a rebound in the cost of vegetables (1.2% vs -0.5%). Among food servicing services, prices moderated for fast foods (4.1% vs 6.0%), hawker food (3.8% vs 4.1%), and catered food (3.3% vs 4.2%) while accelerated for restaurant foods (3.9% vs 3.6%).
