South Korea's industrial production fell by 2.9% month-on-month in May 2025, marking a second consecutive monthly decline and significantly missing market expectations of a 0.1% drop. This was the steepest monthly contraction since July 2024, when output plunged 4.0%. On a year-over-year basis, industrial output edged up by just 0.2%, a sharp slowdown from the 5.1% increase recorded in April and well below the forecasted 2.6% gain.
