Corporate profits in the United States fell by 2.7% from the previous period to $2.726.8 trillion in the first quarter of 2024, compared with preliminary estimate of a smaller 1.7% decrease. Undistributed profits slipped by 11.6% (vs 8.6% reported earlier and 9.5% in Q4), and net cash flow with inventory valuation adjustment dropped by 2.9% (vs 2.9% earlier and 3.5% in Q4). Meanwhile, net dividends rose by 1.8% in Q1, slightly above estimates of 1.7% and after a 1.3% increase in the previous period. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, corporate profits rose by 5.3%.
