The trading platform is your gateway into the market. You can use it to study price action behavior and to manage your trades. But what separates the truly best platforms from your average run-of-the-mill trading station?
It all boils down to what you use your platform for. A casual day trader may be satisfied with a simple charting area and readily available watchlists, while a seasoned scalper might require something extra from the platform, such as one-click trading and Depth of Market (DoM) trading.
Knowing that, we compiled this list of the forex brokers with the best and most versatile trading platforms according to the unique needs of different types of traders.
Our team of experts has identified the strengths and weaknesses of each broker using FXEmpire’s comprehensive methodology.
The Exness Web Terminal was launched in 2008. Since then, it has established itself as one of the premier trading platforms, meshing together advanced charts with built-in market research. The Terminal also provides Exness clients with access to more than 300 tradable instruments, in line with the industry average.
Key Exness Terminal Features:
The first time you fire up the Exness Terminal, you will notice how light it feels. The platform has a familiar layout, with the charting area occupying the middle section of the screen and all the supporting panels arranged around it. Speaking of the Exness Terminal’s charts, I learned that they are powered by TradingView. This means high-definition rendering and easy navigation.
The Exness Terminal is also equipped with actionable trading signals from Trading Central. The service helps you keep pace with the latest trading opportunities across a wide variety of instruments. All you have to do is choose an asset, like the EURUSD or WTI, and read up on the current setup.
On the price front, Exness keeps things smooth with its below-average spreads across currency pairs, commodities, stocks, and cryptocurrencies. The only outlier was the 7.5-basis-point spread I recorded on the German DAX index. On the plus side, the broker provides free VPS hosting to high-volume traders.
You can access Vantage’s comprehensive copy-trading ecosystem via the Vantage Client portal. It hosts more than 90,000 signal providers. You can then use the filtering tool to sift through the available strategies and find the ones that meet your personal requirements.
Key MetaTrader 5 Features:
The great advantage of Vantage is that it does not charge a service fee for copy trading. Though keep in mind that if you want to copy another trader’s strategy, you may also have to pay that trader a subscription fee.
I opened a series of trades with Vantage and recorded the broker’s spreads on popular instruments during the London and New York market openings. From my hands-on testing, I learned that the broker’s trading costs generally beat the industry benchmark.
Finally, if you are a signal provider and want to list your own strategies, you can do so via Vantage’s MetaTrader 5 platform. While the platform is not known for having the best charting capabilities, it compensates for it with its high practicality. It allows traders to automate their systems and to purchase off-the-shelf EAs.
When I first downloaded the Capital.com App, I was immediately impressed by its smooth, easy-to-navigate design. Its chief application is as an account management tool for trading on the go. Not a bad thing to have when the market catches you off guard, or when you are away from your desktop trading station and a losing position needs trimming.
Key Capital.com App Features:
I should say right off the bat that I am typically highly skeptical of trading apps because I prefer doing my trading on a wide-screen desktop, but Capital.com’s app exceeded my expectations with its TradingView-powered charts and streamlined order execution. The chart screen was more responsive than most other apps in the same category, allowing you to zoom in on and out of price action with ease.
I also found out that the Capital.com App features one-tap trading and integrates the broker’s ‘Trade Smart Academy’. Rookie traders can use it to access a wide variety of trading articles and guides provided by the broker and learn at their own pace.
The Capital.com App is also integrated with a news screener to help you keep pace with the latest market-moving headlines. Then there is the question of safety, which Capital.com takes very seriously. The app supports biometric login.
FxPro is a dominant force in the online trading industry, thanks in large part to its access to deep liquidity. This enables the broker to achieve fast execution, which is crucially important for scalpers. FxPro’s impressive numbers speak for themselves. The broker reports average order execution in under 8ms and a 98% positive fill rate.
Key FxPro Platform Features:
I used the dynamic FxPro WebTrader to place a series of orders on popular instruments, including EURUSD, XAUUSD, WTI, and Apple stocks. and experienced no requotes. Moreover, when I reviewed the execution log, I found out that all orders were filled with no negative slippage.
The FxPro WebTrader itself delivers all the goodies a scalper might require. It features one-click trading for instantaneous entries and responsive charts for conducting comprehensive technical analysis. Standard stop-loss orders are also available for exercising tight risk management.
Last but not least, high-volume scalpers can use FxPro’s VPS hosting to reduce latency and ensure stable internet connectivity. I learned that the service is free for Elite and VIP account holders. To qualify, you must deposit at least $1,000.
I like to think of MetaTrader 4 as the workhorse of the trading industry. It was the original trading platform that paved the way for later comers like cTrader and TradingView. And ActivTrades’ diverse offering builds on that MT4 standard setup to help you make the most of it.
Key MT4 Features:
First and foremost, ActivTrades has a strong lineup of tradable instruments. You can access more than 1,100 assets from key markets, such as FX, commodities, stocks, indices, bonds, and ETFs. The broker strikes a fine balance between characteristically volatile assets, such as Apple shares, and more stable, low-risk securities, such as US T-bonds.
Another perk of the broker is the integrated market research. You can add actionable trading signals from Trading Central directly on the MT4 platform, which comes in handy when you have to make snap trading decisions.
Last but not least, ActivTrades’ universal trading account adds meaningful value to traders with its $0 deposit requirement and competitive pricing. The broker leaves it to you to decide how much to get started, and you can enjoy EURUSD spreads from as low as 0.7 pips.
When it comes to fast and precise order execution, Swissquote leads the way with its significant market power and global outreach. The Swiss investment bank has a market cap of around 6.3 billion Swiss Francs and access to more than 4 million trading and investing products.
Key CFXD Platform Features:
Thanks to its considerable market exposure, the investment giant is able to achieve some remarkable numbers. Its average order execution speed averages less than 9ms, markedly lower than the industry average of 60ms, while 58% of all trades are filled with no slippage. Even more impressively, Swissquote fills 20% of all trades with a positive improvement.
I found Swissquote a great fit for scalpers and intraday traders seeking to squeeze the maximum out of interim price fluctuations while facing little risk of negative slippage. Swissquote is also a great option for high-volume traders because it has the market power and access to liquidity to transact large orders swiftly and precisely.
Swissquote also impressed me with its custom-built CFXD platform. It stands out with its rare order types, including OCO, IF-Done, and IF-OCO, which represent complex instructions for market entries only when some predetermined conditions are met. The CFXD platform can also be integrated with Swissquote’s FIX APIs – for tapping into the interbank market – and features actionable trading signals from Autochartist.
Tickmill’s premier trading station, the TickmillTrader, is a beginner-friendly platform with a smooth, intuitive design and high functionality. I also appreciated Tickmill’s extensive library of educational materials, primarily aimed at inexperienced rookies and intermediate traders.
Key Tickmill MT5 Platform Features:
I scoured Ticmill’s hundreds of educational articles, videos, and e-books, which provide a 360-degree overview of essential trading topics. Beginners can learn about a wide variety of concepts – from basic concepts like the use of Doji candlesticks, to more complex topics like exchange-traded derivatives markets.
A standout for me was the ‘Bright Minds’ podcast, which is proprietary to Tickmill and focuses on more abstract topics. I enjoyed one episode dedicated to the most common trading biases and explaining how to take hold of your fear and greed. Ultimately, Tickmill got my stamp of approval exactly because its educational content is so well-balanced and insightful.
On the price side, Tickmill also performed well. I recorded below-average spreads on commodities, stocks, indices, and cryptocurrencies. The 2-cent WTI spread I captured was the highlight of my tests, easily beating the industry average of 4 cents. On the downside, Tickmill’s forex spreads shot above the industry benchmark.
IG is a household name in the trading industry, thanks in large part to its seamless Web platform and massive tradable instruments selection. I found there are over 13,000 stocks, 6,000 ETFs, 97 forex pairs, 40 commodities, 51 indices, 19 bonds, 17 cryptocurrencies, and IPOs. IPO trading is only available with a handful of other brokers and allows you to ride the usually massive price spikes that occur when a company is first listed on the market.
Key IG Web Platform Features:
IG has also got a leg up on the competition with regard to its contract types diversity. In addition to its standard CFDs offering, the broker also offers spread betting, barrier and vanilla options, investing products, futures contracts, and more. Accordingly, I found IG a suitable option for intraday traders and short-term speculators, swing and position traders, investors, and volatility traders.
The IG Web Platform is another strong point of the broker, delivering a fast and smooth trading experience. Price action is illustrated in great detail on the platform’s fantastic, wide charts, and you can easily zoom in on trading setups as they emerge. Another perk of the trading station is the built-in market sentiment gauge, which screens changes in buying and selling pressures.
IG is also making strides with its wide array of supporting tools and services. The broker, which already averages a 14ms execution speed, provides free VPS hosting to high-volume traders. Meanwhile, its institutional-grade market research tracks major and minor market developments alike – a great thing to have alongside IG’s massive instruments offering.
IC Markets passed my fee competitiveness tests with flying colors. The spreads I captured on popular assets, including EURUSD, WTI, Apple stocks, and the US30 index, beat the industry average across the board. The $0.02 WTI and $12 BTCUSD spreads I recorded were the highlights of my testing.
Key MT5 Platform Features:
I was collecting my data at a time of general market turmoil caused by the ongoing US/Iran war from 2026. The strained energy market prompted WTI spreads to widen across the industry, but IC Markets managed to keep its crude oil spreads tight.
I also learned that IC Markets provides even lower spreads on its Raw Account, which features a $6 round-trip commission when used on the cTrader platform. This commission rate is aligned with the industry average and suits high-volume traders.
I consider cTrader the optimal retail platform because it accommodates the greatest number of trading styles. Its high-definition charts serve day traders and swing traders, while its built-in copy trading environment connects signal providers and signal followers. And to cap it all off, cTrader allows you to purchase off-the-shelf trading bots for algorithmic trading.
FP Markets is a tightly regulated financial derivatives broker with a dedicated professional account geared towards seasoned vets. To qualify for the account, which features a maximum retail leverage of 1:500, you must have a portfolio worth EUR 500,000, have traded in significant volume over the past year, or prove that you have worked in the financial industry.
Key MT5 Platform Features:
FP Markets has a broad stack of trading platforms, including popular names like MT4, MT5, and cTrader. But to professional traders, I can recommend the Iress and Mottai platforms. Each one features more than 10,000 stocks and supports Direct-Market-Access (DMA) trading. You can use this feature to tap into the interbank market and obtain raw spreads from an exchange’s order books. In layman’s terms, DMA trading helps you obtain lower spreads and achieve faster execution.
Speaking of spreads, I measured FP Markets’ spreads and commissions and estimated that the broker provides better-than-average conditions for trading stocks, indices, and cryptocurrencies. For example, I calculated that it would cost you just $8 to trade a full contract of Apple shares via FP Markets’ Raw Account. This came in significantly lower than the industry average of $26.
Professional traders with FP Markets can also use the MT4, MT5, and cTrader platforms available with the broker to customize their own trading algorithms. I consider the cTrader trading station the most capable of the bunch. You can use it to automate your strategies via the built-in coding environment.
MultiBank attracts stock traders with its massive offering of 14,000+ share CFDs. It includes stocks of popular blue-chip companies across the retail, tech, finance, and other sectors. These are available from the broker’s proprietary trading station with a maximum retail leverage of 1:20.
Key MultiBank App Platform Features:
The aptly named MultiBank App platform, which is available for web and desktop trading, stands out with its high-definition charts and integrated market research. The built-in stocks screener takes the cake because it provides key trading insights. Most significantly, the tool flags the daily gainers and losers in the stock market.
I also learned that MultiBank’s flagship platform supports FIX APIs integration and can be boosted using VPS. These tools allow you to speed up your execution speed and obtain raw spreads from the interbank market.
I captured MultiBank’s Apple and Tesla spreads during the New York market opening. I recorded a $0.12 APPL spread vs. a $0.31 industry average, and a $0.35 TSLA spread vs. a $0.48 industry average. My tests provided MultiBank a great option for cost-conscious stock traders, who are also exempt from paying a trading commission on popular US stocks.
tastyfx is a subsidiary of the IG Group of entities – one of the biggest and most renowned brands in the trading industry. The broker has remained a dominant force in the trading sphere for decades and has invested heavily in developing its proprietary web-trading platform.
Key tastyfx Platform Features:
My first impression of the tastyfx Web Trader was that it provides ample market information. When you open a new order ticket, you are provided with abundant information about the trade you are about to execute.
I also enjoyed scaling price action up and down on the Web Trader’s flexible charts. I found the charting area quite fluid, allowing you to zoom in on even the smallest price formations as they emerge. This is more difficult to achieve on a platform like MetaTrader due to its rugged, cumbersome charts.
tastyfx’s flagship has one final leg up on more conventional trading stations, and that’s its integrated market research. The highlight for me was the market sentiment gauge, which tracks changes in buying and selling sentiment throughout the day.
Plus500 US brings the world of futures trading to casual retail traders in the US via its proprietary Plus500 WebTrader platform. The broker offers more than 100 futures contracts across currency pairs, commodities, equities, indices, interest rates, and cryptocurrencies.
Key Plus500 Platform Features:
The Plus500 WebTrader platform is highly customizable and offers more than 100 technical indicators. You can use them for analyzing long-term price trends, which is key to futures trading. Indicators like the ADX, which illustrates market commitment, and the RSI, which signals when the market is overbought or oversold.
The other highlight of the Plus500 platform was the +Insights tool, which tracks the buying and selling activity of other traders. This allows you to monitor the changing bullish and bearish sentiments.
I also learned from my hands-on tests that Plus500 charges fixed commissions for futures trading. The Standard Mini Contract commission is $0.89 per side, while the Standard Micro Contract commission came in at $0.49.
